Discover the
fortresses

Hidden in nature they suddenly pop up: the forts of the Dutch Water Defence Lines. It consists of 100 forts, 2 castles, 85 machine gun casemates, over 700 concrete troop shelters and casemates as well as more than 100 military sluices and water engineering works. The Dutch Water Defence Lines is the largest National Monument in the Netherlands and UNESCO World Heritage.

The Waterline Path

The Waterliniepad is a special long-distance walking path of 350 km, along two former defense lines: the Stelling van Amsterdam and the New Dutch Waterline. The route takes you through UNESCO World Heritage. The many forts, bunkers, locks, dikes and canals tell the story of water as an ally in the defense of the Netherlands.
