Broodje Mario
Broodje Mario is legendary. It is impossible to visit Utrecht and not eat a Broodje Mario. This sandwich always contains a large Italian bun topped with cheese, salami, chorizo, some raw vegetables and green pepper.
In addition to the famous Mario sandwich, the menu also includes other richly filled sandwiches, pizza slices and calzones. Sandwiches are sold at lunchtime and on Saturday. They have limited seats at the bakery, but there is plenty of seating along the Oudegracht to enjoy this typical Utrecht sandwich.
A sandwich invented in 1977
It was Mario Nistro who started selling his famous Mario Sandwich in 1977. Mario Nistro, born in Monte San Biagio, Italy, had the opportunity to take over a pizza stand at the time. He did, and that was the start of this special Utrechts sandwich.
