De Helling
De Helling is an Utrecht-based independent concert hall and nightclub, located next to tram and trainstation Vaartse Rijn on the edge of the city centre. The concert hall has a capacity of 450 visitors, as well as a café. De Helling organises 280 concerts and nights annually. De Helling has a night permit so you can often dance until the sun comes up.
In its programming, De Helling focuses on heavy, bass, hiphop and boundary-crossing music and it’s communities, though the complete picture is broader than those genres. De Helling offer space to traditionally less heard voices in the mainstream, especially to non-masculine perspectives and norm-challenging artists and organisers.
De Helling historically was part of the Tivoli organization. After Tivoli moved to their current location, De Helling became an independent venue. Nowadays it’s an important part of both the local, national, and international music scene and as a nightclub it offers a safe space where visitors can get let loose freely.
De Helling is in Rotsoord, a former industrial area next to station Vaartse Rijn. Rotsoord has been developed the last couple of years and is now one of the liveliest areas of the city in terms of culture and creativity. A lot of the old industry buildings now house restaurants and cafés, so having a drink or a bite before a show is easily done.
