Renswoude foundation

In 1752, Maria Duyst van Voorhout, Vrijvrouwe van Renswoude, Established the Fundatie van Renswoude where talented boys from he city handicraft orphanage received education in the area of art and techniques. Architect Jan Verkerk designed the building which was put into use in 1761. The lavishly ornamented louis XIV style façade lies exactly on the axis of the Lange Nieuwstraat. Its interor inclused Rococo halls and a magnificent wooden staircase which leads to the regent hall with Rococo furniture created by the pupils. There are no pupils living here anymore, but the regent still distribute grants.
