St. Catherine's Church

The St. Catherine's Church is the last medieval church that was built in Utrecht. After part of the church collapsed during a storm, the government donated the church to William II. With this, the church was officially donated to the Catholic community in 1840. This makes St. Catherine's Church the only medieval church in Utrecht that has officially been returned to the Catholic community.

The church is special because both baptismal fonts in the church are a gift from King Louis Napoleion who had a palace in the Wittevrouwenstraat. The organ is also special because it was made by Michaël Maarschalkerweerd on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the restoration of the episcopal hierarchy. In addition, there are also figures of jester to admire in the choir vault. the figures were visible to the bishop only when he was seated in his bishop's seat at the back of the choir.
