Stadskantoor
The modern white building next to Utrecht Central Station is the Utrecht Stadskantoor (Council Offices). This is the central information point for residents and entrepreneurs in Utrecht.
Makeover for the station area
The new Stadskantoor makes up part of the station area, which will be undergoing a substantial makeover during the next few years. A few facts and figures: the building (including its aerial) is 98 metres high, has 21 storeys, 180 toilets, a total of 2,500 workstations, 2,200 bicycle parking spaces and 47 public information desks.
Sustainable Stadskantoor
The Stadskantoor has been designed with a view to minimising carbon emissions. For example, there is a heat/cold storage system on the roofs of both towers which provides heating in winter and cooling in summer. Succulent plants have been planted on the central structure that connects the two towers, and the entire building has triple glazing for good insulation. Solar panels, 260 of them, have been installed on the facade of the North Tower, with a total surface area of 661 m2, and there are another 30 m2 of panels on the roof.
