’t Oude Po­thuys

You will find this cozy café-restaurant on the Oudegracht. But why is it called 't Oude Pothuys (the old Pothouse)? In the past people used to build a well (a ‘Put’) at the front of the house to collect the rainwater. Later this space was often used to store pots and pans. Thus the Puthuis (well house) became a ‘Pothuys’ to store pots and pans.

This Old Pothuys has been a cozy café-restaurant for years now. In the back of the atmospheric basement you will find a small stage. Bands have been playing here regularly since 1981. Nowadays you can enjoy live music almost every day during your drink or dinner. Many great musicians had a fantastic evening here, playing, listening, drinking and eating. The tables where they spent the evening now bear their names.

On the international menu you will find meat, vegetarian and vegan dishes. And if you like cheese fondue, this is the place to go. So descend into this cozy cellar and let yourself be surprised both musically and culinary!
